China Town

I loved the China Town area in Singapore. It was so vibrant and fun! Colorful and almost dream like in the drizzling rain.

Neha you're photos are good, but I have a slight problem with some of them. I hope you don't mind a lil constructive critique of your works (John Stuart Mill & his views on liberty of speech, you know) anywho...a couple of quick comments:
1) The Model pic (#1) - I think the tubelights above the models are rather distracting & consequently disturbing...perhaps there was no other viable angle for you. It would have made a pretty good pic.
2) The Street pic (#2) - It definitely seems overexposed in the top half and underexposed in the bottom half. You could've tried exposure bracketing (i wonder if you have); would've made the pic come alive. Also the alignment is slightly skewed. If you have a pillar or a vertical structure at the edge of your pic it accentuates the vertical alignment of your composition. Symmetry is always more pleasing in its fundamentals.
3) Balloon pic (#3) & Cage pic (#6) - In case the composition is deliberate and as an expression of personal tastes, you could ignore this comment. If it isn't, I think you shouldn't bring the subject of the pic right to the edges. I've noticed this in a lot of your earlier pics (the animal pics). It is generally considered a compositional flaw (esp. in nature photography).
4) The Cat pic (#? - too tired to count :) - The frame is slightly underutilized. You could've zoomed in a little on the cats so that the extra detail of the shelf and beneath could've been avoided. Although it's only a tiny bit of the bottom right corner that is extraneous, it could've been avoided nonetheless.

More...later.

Hi Sera,
Thanks for dropping by and taking the time to write about the pictures. It's always great to hear a perspective, and look at your own work through someone else's. :)

Well in a lot of my pictures, yes, you might find that I like my subjects on the edge. That's because I like them to not have the stage to themselves alone. I like to connect them to their surroundings. I also prefer not to get the most obvious shot, for example - in the first picture with the mannequins, I would have easily been able to avoid the background by taking the picture from center front, that way, three of the faces would have filled the frame and the tube lights would be hidden. But I like the drama in the background. Ditto for the lamp and the cage or most of my shots actually.
With the cats shot again, would have been the most obvious thing to shoot it from the fore front, or zoom in more, but again, I suppose it's one's style and preference.
In nature photography especially, I have loved the effect which has been created by placing the subjects on the edge and on the side! Like the storks, and the golden fish in the water, would not habe been the same for me if they were more centered. I have a lot of shots of the fish but this is my fav!
For the street scene, I have overexposed the picture a lot, and that was intentional. I wanted the big city buildings as a contrasting background to the colorful and chaotic China Town.
Having said all this, I must confess that I'm a very intutive photographer and while I love studying new techniques and ideas, I never over analyze a scene or a subject and I usually go with what I'm feeling rather than the rules. That's pretty much how I am with everything around me! So if it's a flaw or not, I never worry about it. :)
I appreciate all your comments and it has been so exciting to see the work through your eyes! :) Keep dropping by and letting me know your thoughts.
Thanks and cheers!
